3 - The National Well-being Index

Sponsored by the Office for National Statistics

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has been developing measures in order to measure national well-being: www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/user-guidance/well-being/

As part of this study, the ONS has surveyed hundreds of thousands of members of the general public in order to find out how happy they are.

Out of all the people interviewed, Nigel Frent from Bognor Regis was by far the happiest person that they spoke to. It was decided that the wider population has a lot to learn from Nigel. He is now kept in a cage in this room and anyone can come and talk to him at any time of the day in order to get his thoughts on how best they can be happy. Many people want to talk to Nigel, so he only allowed one hour a day for sleeping or eating. Once the ONS measures show that everyone is happy Nigel will be allowed to go on holiday.
